Making healthier choices while caring for your elderly parents.

Alkaline Water…is it worth the money?

Does anyone out there drink alkaline water?  It seems in today’s world to be healthier, you need to have a good chunk of money behind you.  When I was caring for my mom, I didn’t have the extra money to buy alkaline water.  I’m assuming that most people out there who are caring for your elderly parents don’t have the luxury of a lot of money to buy something like this as well.  That’s why when I saw this article about making your own alkaline water it got me thinking.

With water, I see it as 3 choices, tap water, bottled water or alkaline water.  Personally, I haven’t in many years nor would I ever drink tap water.  At my local water store, I bring my own large 5 gallon jugs and get them fill with regular tap water.  For 5 times the price, I could step up and buy alkaline water, but that’s pretty expensive.

Is alkaline water just a new fad?  Kind of like these new superfruits that seem to appear every few years out of nowhere?  Is it a new way for the rich to stay healthier, while the poor and less educated continue to put unhealthier chooses into our bodies?

I wish I wasn’t so programmed to eat meat.  Don’t get me wrong, I enjoy all types of meat (beef, chicken, fish, etc).  As I get older, I sometimes think about being a vegetarian.  Every time I go to my local grocery store and purchase a pack of chicken thighs I think to myself, “This is such a good deal!”  But is it?  Six dollars for a dozen thighs will last me a while, but is it the healthiest choice?  Food is such an industry and every corporation is all about profits.  I feel like the lobbyists “legally bribe” the FDA to allow the lowest common denominator of food to pass as edible.  To think about all the steroids and whatever else they pump into the animals before we get them onto my table scares me.

That’s why if you don’t eat everything that’s grain-fed, free range and organic, we’re probably eating poison.  The little conspiracy theorist in my mind thinks that the pharmaceutical industry has a hand in everything.  Next time you go to your local 99 cents store and you see the knock-off brand of Doritos, look at the ingredients.  Of course, there’s ZERO nutritional value, but I get there’s some weird ingredients that are bad for us to consume, but for some reason, they’re allowed to be sold.  I bet big pharma has a share in some of those knock off companies.  Everyone who eats that food makes great customers for prescription drugs.  We need to educate our society to make better choices.  It’s sad that a healthier lifestyle is so much more expensive.

Even with eating fruits and vegetables.  If you’re not buying organic, imagine all the pesticides and whatever chemicals they’re adding to the soil to help them grow that we’re consuming.  Ugh!  Oy Vey!  Etc…

I had just stumbled upon this article, (http://alkalinewatermachinereviews.com/make-alkaline-water/) which teaches you how to make your own alkaline water and was wondering if anyone ever done this?  Could you let me/us know how it turned out?  I’m going to do it soon and I’ll let you know how it turns out for me.

I think that if you’re a caregiver for one of your aging parents, making alkaline water would probably benefit you both.    Thanks for reading and have a great day!!! ~ ChrisNicholas.com
